Felt like we needed to get into the spirit of things and to show our true colours so, decided to kit up with some Bafana Bafana merchandise… personally, I wanted to go all out; I’m talking replica jersey, makarapa, vuvuzela, flag, and pretty much anything else I could get my hands on. To be honest I desperately wanted to be noticed (by foreign journalists, reporters, TV crews, etc) in the hope my “fans” in the UK (especially in Scotland) could catch a glimpse of me in the papers or better yet, on the telly.

Now, you can’t say the nation is not behind the team, because every single shop I visited today told the same story; the South Africa jersey was SOLD OUT. Prices for the rest of the items on my list were quite steep… I quickly got the sense retailers had set up stall specifically to take advantage of poor unsuspecting tourists with fat wallets. Regardless, I got my hustle on and secured my jersey (that had apparently been reserved for someone) and a large flag.

We rounded off our day by visiting the MTN Fan Zone at Montecasino (Italian themed mall / hotel / casino); to celebrate my sister’s 6th birthday and, coincidentally, to watch the Italy vs Uruguay match. This match obviously had significance as we’ve got tickets to Match 55 (Winner F vs Runner up E). Anyway, we had our meal tonight at John Dory’s which is almost like a seafood version of Spur… stuffed!
