Muriwo Everyday

“Muriwo” is a Shona word broadly used to describe the various types of leafy green vegetables that form part of a typical meal in Zimbabwe. Muriwo normally accompanies “sadza” (cooked maize meal), and often “nyama” (meat) as well.

For as long as I can remember my parents have grown and maintained a vegetable garden at home and you’re bound to find “muriwo” (leafy green vegetables) along with “chibage” (maize), “mbambaira” (sweet potato), “manhanga” (pumpkins), etc.
